What BestPlaces Users Say about Murfreesboro

Murfreesboro, Tennessee is a rapidly growing city located in the central part of the state. With a population of over 140,000 people, it has become a popular destination for young professionals and families. The city boasts a lively downtown area, great schools, and a strong sense of community. However, like any city, there are both positive and negative aspects to living in Murfreesboro. To get a comprehensive understanding of what it's like to live there, let's take a look at what some users have to say about their experiences.

According to JohnDoe on Best Places, "Murfreesboro has everything you need in a city, without the overwhelming hustle and bustle of a big city. The cost of living is reasonable and there are plenty of job opportunities." Similarly, user JaneSmith shares, "The community here is so welcoming and the school district is top-notch. My family and I have truly felt at home since moving here." These reviews highlight the positive aspects of Murfreesboro, such as its affordability and strong sense of community.

On the other hand, some users have mentioned concerns about the city's rapid growth. As user SarahJones notes, "Traffic has become a nightmare in Murfreesboro. It can take over an hour to drive across town during rush hour." Similarly, another user, MarkWilson, adds, "The increase in population has led to overcrowding in schools and longer wait times for doctor appointments. It's definitely something to consider before moving here." These reviews bring attention to the potential downsides of living in Murfreesboro, such as increased traffic and strains on infrastructure.

Overall, it's important to consider both the positive and negative aspects of living in Murfreesboro before making a decision to move there. While the city offers many benefits, it also has its challenges, particularly with its rapid growth. As user JaneSmith stated, "Murfreesboro has been a great place for my family, but it's important to do your research and make sure it's the right fit for you."

A decent alternative to Nashville, but not better - 2/14/2024
Murfreesboro is okay, but it does seem like it is somewhat unsavory and there are a disproportionate amount of drug busts. It is a good place for young artists and students, but only some areas are good for families. I'd rather live in Nashville proper if possible. Read More

Thinking of making a big move but need help - 5/17/2018
I've lived all my life in Chicago, Il and am growing quite tired of the violence and the cost of living. I have been doing research all over the U.S. so I can get me and my family out of here and I think I'm liking the Murfreesboro area. The only problem is uprooting and moving away from our family. I would love to hear about life in Murfreesboro for a family with small children. Anything you can tell me would be appreciated. You can email me at tanglermotley05@gmail.com Read More

Best place to live - 12/15/2015
Murfreesboro is growing into a little big town. According to Forbes and governing.com, we are now one of the fastest growing cities in the United States. Our city is busting at the seams in a few different directions. It's exciting to see new stores, apartment complexes, and fun-to-do activities pop up throughout the city. It has made date nights a lot more fun. I have lived here 15 years and have seen this growth first hand. The people here are friendly and we have an incredible community for people that like to run, bike, workout, do fun activities. Life is what you make it... and it's easy to make life good here. Read More

Murfreesboro vs. Knoxville? - 8/5/2014
I'm debating between a teaching position in Murfreesboro and Knoxville. I am a single 42 year old who is a personal trainer & fitness competitor, and enjoys being involved with church activities. Can anyone recommend one city over the other? I'm relocating from St. Pete/Clearwater, Fl. Ideally, I'd like an area that offers southern charm, friendly folks, festivals, restaurants, sporting events, hiking, boating, and biking/runner friendly. Of course the potential for meeting quality, Christian men would be an added bonus!
I'm torn between the areas surrounding Murfreesboro and Knoxville!

College Town - 1/15/2014
As a college town with Middle Tennessee State University, this city is growing fast. But the cost of living is comfortable and doesn't bear the rising prices as most major college towns. I find it very resourceful as far as nightlife, social life, and relaxing at the same time. Just minutes from Nashville, this town gives a lot more than takes from Read More

African American Family - 9/19/2013
Would we fit in? We are a family of 4 from Mississippi, and we have thought about moving to the Nashville area (Murfreesboro). I am a Resident Assistant in a retirement assisted living home; my husband is a Bob truck driver; we have a teenager who will be in 8th grade; we have a high school graduate who is looking to attend a music production school/college. We are a church-going family. We are looking for a nice 3 bedroom/2 bathroom home or apartment in a nice neighborhood for under $800 a month. Is public transportation available?  Read More

Concerned Rutherford County Parent - 12/11/2012
I am concerned about the methods and approaches of my child's teachers at Seigel Middle School. Every day I hear about the way tests are given; rules that are highly suspect and vary class by class. If you have similar or related concerns, please voice your assesssment of Seigel Middle School.

If you are not from the south DONT LIVE HERE!!!!!! - 6/7/2010
My family decided to leave Las Vegas in order to find a place to live that was nore family friendly and a place to spend the rest of our lives. Well let me tell you that it's been nearly 3 years of pure hell living in this redneck ass backwards place of a city and state. I have a background in the Casino industry as a table games dealer as well as a supervisor. I have been in the customer service industry for over 25 years and I am now on my 16th month being unemployed in this state cause "there aint no casinos out here". Thats all i've heard since i've lived here and if you aint from the south then you are the enemy to these people!! I am not kidding. I was taught that when you look for employment you dress for success, well not here in good Ol Tennessee. The only suit that they own out here is the one they find at Goodwill to be buried in. I could not believe every job interview I would go on, I was dressed in a nice suit, had a fresh haicut, shave, etc. Well I was the only one!! In Read More
