Wonderful City - 1/17/2006
San Antonio is a wonderful place to live and work. I have lived here since college, prior to living in San Antonio full time, I lived in Mexico City, D.F., Mexico, and Barcelona, Spain. Out of the three I found San Antonio the most welcoming for new-comers. These comments about non-existent night life are basically, a joke. The thing about San Antonio is, there is something for everyone, but you are expected to find it. There is a great nightlife scene, with a few fun places in several parts of town. Excellent restaurants, especially authentic Mexican and South American, Tex-Mex is the same everywhere. Good coffee shops, but you have to know where to find them, I recommend Candlelight on North St. Mary's, and Sip on Houston St. downtown. I've found good bagels at Daily Bread on Broadway and also at Central Market, also near the intersection of Wurzbach and Lockhill-Selma near the Jewish Community Center, there is a great little bakery. There are great cultural opportunities Read More

Good and bad - 1/12/2006
Good: great tex-mex, nice people, great weather (except those hot days, but you can stay indoors as you would if it were 30 below), lots of jobs in health care and blue collar, cultural diversity, near Austin with a lot of thigns to do
Bad: not a lot of jobs for professionals outside health care and your standard careers that are mobile, no good bagels, few to no good coffee shops (starbucks doesn't count), not a lot of nightlife outside tourist Read More

San Antonio - 11/19/2005
I am a 28 year old college student who has travelled to only a few other places in my life, but I must say that San Antonio certainly does NOT have a very active night life for college students/young people. The Riverwalk is a tourist trap, as is the Alamo for that matter. I've heard many of my own relatives complain about the lack of interest associated with visiting this cultural icon (Alamo) as it is very small and over rated. I believe it's a replica of the real thing and was not even rebuilt in the same spot as the original!

Also, the south and SW/ SE sides of town are rather impoverished compared to the culturally vacant but uber affluent North/NorthWest sides of town.

To top it all off, a proposition to fund a better equipped police force was shot down and a proposition to make gay marriage (even more) illegal was approved by a landslide!Read More

San Antonio - 10/29/2005
San Antonio is a growing city which will promote numerous jobs over the next few years. The best parts of San Antonio are the suburbs on the outer lying parts of the city. The west side and south side are not all that pretty to look at but make a great place for shopping and finding ridiculously cheap prices. San Antonio also has a great and beautiful historic area that draws many tourists. It is also great party town for all those college kids. There's always something going on. The downfall is the humidity , the heat, and air quality. Traffic is actually decent compared to other cities. The schools are decent, crime rate is lower than any in other city of its size. Housing is very very affordable and decent. I'd say overall San Antonio is a mellow and decent place to live I've lived here all my life and it does have its uniqueness but having said that I'd also love to see what other cities have to offer. I love San Antonio but it's time for a change, I can't bear the hot weather any Read More

PROMINENT JOB MARKET - 9/7/2005
I was in San Antonio before, back in the early 90's and computers and healthcare seemed to be the two top employers of San Antonio next to Government Civilian work at the bases.

Leaving Here After 41 Years - 8/29/2005
I've had just about enough of this city. It already rates an "F" with the American Lung Association for its air quality. And now, with Toyota and other factories coming in, its only going to get worse. But of course, you will never hear our city officials or others in authority here talk about our poor air quality. I had to discover that on my own, after having some health problems relating to environmental concerns, and doing some research on the Read More
