Wonderful City

San Antonio is a wonderful place to live and work. I have lived here since college, prior to living in San Antonio full time, I lived in Mexico City, D.F., Mexico, and Barcelona, Spain. Out of the three I found San Antonio the most welcoming for new-comers. These comments about non-existent night life are basically, a joke. The thing about San Antonio is, there is something for everyone, but you are expected to find it. There is a great nightlife scene, with a few fun places in several parts of town. Excellent restaurants, especially authentic Mexican and South American, Tex-Mex is the same everywhere. Good coffee shops, but you have to know where to find them, I recommend Candlelight on North St. Mary's, and Sip on Houston St. downtown. I've found good bagels at Daily Bread on Broadway and also at Central Market, also near the intersection of Wurzbach and Lockhill-Selma near the Jewish Community Center, there is a great little bakery. There are great cultural opportunities also, several museums, performing groups, the Texas Bach Choir is based in SA, the SA Symphony is back, the AirForce Band of the West, also UTSA, the University of the Incarnate Word, Our Lady of the Lake University, Trinity University, and the University of Mexco at San Antonio (UNAM) are great cultural hubs. Lots of festivals happen including Fiesta, the Rodeo, MLK celebrations, St. Patricks Day, Cinco de Mayo, etc... The great thing about San Antonio is people go in with a perception of a very Mexican city, but in places, it's also very German or Polish, or Alsacian, or Greek, or Hebrew, or Italian, even Middle Eastereners have contributed to San Antonio. My advice is go, get off the map, and have a good time, especially ignore the notion that Austin is the alpha and omega of night life in South/Central Texas, it's actually terrible.
