What BestPlaces Users Say about St. George

St. George, Utah is a growing city located in the southwestern corner of the state. It is known for its warm climate, beautiful scenery, and outdoor recreational opportunities. With a population of over 80,000 people, it has become a popular destination for retirees and young families alike. However, with any place, there are always varying opinions on what it's like to live there. In this context, we will summarize and include user reviews from the website BestPlaces.net about living in St. George, Utah.

One user, named Jack, had a positive experience living in St. George, stating, "I moved to St. George a few years ago and I absolutely love it! The weather is perfect, the views are breathtaking, and the people are friendly." Another user, Susan, also enjoys living in St. George, saying, "I've lived in many places across the country, but St. George is by far my favorite. The cost of living is reasonable, the crime rate is low, and there are so many fun things to do." These reviews highlight the climate and community as major positives of living in St. George.

On the other hand, not all user reviews were as positive. Mary, a former resident of St. George, had this to say, "I lived in St. George for a few years and I couldn't wait to leave. The traffic is terrible, the cost of living is high, and there is not much to do besides hiking and golfing." Similarly, John had a similar experience, stating, "I moved to St. George for a job opportunity, but I regret it. The city feels very conservative and there isn't a lot of diversity. Plus, the housing market is out of control." These reviews highlight potential downsides to living in St. George, including traffic, cost of living, and lack of diversity.

In summary, user reviews on BestPlaces.net about living in St. George, Utah are mixed. Many users enjoy the warm climate, beautiful scenery, and friendly community, while others criticize the high cost of living and lack of diversity. Ultimately, it seems that living in St. George may be a great fit for some, but not for others.

What are you worried about? - 10/30/2007
St. George is a great place to live. There are TONS of things to do, if you're into recreation and what not. The religion "issue" seems to worry many who are interested in moving to St. George. I don't know about you, but in every city, there is some kind of "issue" going on. Moving to St. George would be like moving to any other city, making new friends, doing new things, and experiencing one of the most beautiful places on earth! (Check out Zion's, it's Read More

St. George is better than you think - 10/30/2007
I don't understand why everyone hates St. George so much! Sure, it gets hot, but it isn't completely unbearable. The predominant faith (Mormonism)isn't a cult trying to convert your little kids, either.  Read More

Way hotter than one would think - 8/27/2007
The summers here are really hot. From late May to late September we average high 90's to 112 degrees (and sometimes more). When we decided to move here, we had no idea - it's been a well kept secret even by the Chamber! The rest of the year is great - mild winters, wonderful autumn and spring. Winds can really kick up here, too. If you like the heat, it's great. Otherwise, use St. George as your winter home Read More

A view from a Californian - 7/30/2007
Some pros and cons of moving to Southern Utah. Among many natives you might be regarded as "those Californians" whether your from there or not. You might also be refered to as the reason for everything evil from housing prices to low paying jobs. Most folks are very nice. But there often is a culture clash of Little House on the Prarie meets Anahiem. I often think of St. George as Barstow striking gold and steroids at the same time. It doesn't appear much planning is being done and it shows. The weather is like the lower desert of California because it is the desert. Mesquite and Vegas are not very far away but not much else when it's 110. It is a very Mormon dominated state and it may or may not be outwardly apparent depending on what your planning. You certainly won't find anything remotely resembling corner liquor stores with Playboy type magazines or bright nightclubs. It's an interesting place and if you keep in mind the world your in you will probably like Read More

We looked at St George - 7/17/2007
My husband and I spent a few days in St. George last year. We are retiring in a few months and were excited to check it out. Bottom line: There was no "THERE" there. The unchecked and apparently unplanned growth left almost no sense of the town we had passed through 20 years ago. Hillsides have been gouged out, homes were sprawled and perched on every imaginable plot of land. And were not cheap. Just did not get the feeling that we wanted to stay. Still Read More

St. George Utah Area - 6/3/2007
We are originally from Southern California and moved to the St. George area about nine months ago for work-related reasons. What a shocker! The surrounding areas are gorgeous, with red rock galore. But the cities (St. George, Washingon, Santa Clara, Ivins, Hurricane, etc.) are fairly dismal. The majority of neighborhoods are run down, stores are old. The mall is tiny. We have a few chain restaurants, but very few others, although the fast food chains are heavily represented. (Take that as a hint as to the population.) Once you've used your annual pass to Zion National Park a dozen or so times, there's not much else to do here. Houses are extremely expensive, almost at California prices. Weather? Extremely hot from May through September. (We hit the 100s in MAY.) Pay? Seriously low, for the cost of living. I was shocked at the prices in the grocery stores. There is also a strong Mormon/LDS undercurrent here, which is somewhat unnerving to an outsider.

Hot with Scorpions - 1/10/2007
With 118F temperatures, this is an anti-human environment. At temps of between 127F and 130F the human body finds it impossible to cool itself, even just resting in the shade. Death awaits.

People in desert communities have their homes exterminated about 4 times a year to repel snakes and scorpions. Some have to hose down the base of their homes daily, as the bricks will disintigrate in the heat.

The only thing I like the desert for is that it is the only environment in which stucco as a house siding is really practical.

Is the huge fault lying under Salt Lake City running anywhere under St. George? I don't know.

Utah is the only state in the union that I know of with an official position of 'Pornography Czar'.

Where are the great libraries, museums, schools? The nearest large city, about 200 miles away, is Vegas, and that is not a place where I'd like to live, Read More

wonderful place - 1/3/2007
St George is experiencing alot of growth at this time, but has not lost its small town feel. The growth is bringing new opportunities to everyone. It still has the charm and friendliness of a small town, but all that you could ever ask for it terms of things to do, go see and enjoy.
