City Politics have Ruined St. George - 6/22/2006
The city fathers have always been kind of backward, and insensitive to the citizens. But now that the Californians have arrived in droves, and brought their crime with them, the city is totally catering to them. They have money and money talks.

Us poor St. Georgians have no say at all now. This used to be a quaint small historical town with surrounding beauty. Now, St. George code enforcement constantly trespasses on private property to see if you are doing anything out of compliance. They even peek over block walls to see if your back yard is as pristine as they want it to be. If not, off to city court you go, where they have already found you guilty and assess insane fines. $25 per day, per violation. Each unregistered car is a violation. That includes classic cars being restored. Have a few weeds? Oops, another $25 a day. Kids toys strewn around the yard, another fine. No boat, waverunner or any motorized vehicle can be stored outside, it has to be inside Read More

Considering a move..but not of the morman faith? - 3/4/2006
I have looked at this area for many years and am considering moving here.I am not of the Morman faith and I do have school age children. I have got mixed reviews as to how the children are treated by others if they are not Morman. Is this true? I know there has been alot of growth in the area but my concern is my children. Please tell me if the religion factor has alot to do with the quality of life in that area? Please Read More

Unsightly growth in a beautiful setting - 2/15/2006
St. George has become a retirement mecca. Growth has been substantial in the last 10 years. From I-15, you won't be able to get a sense of the place, and if you take any exit, you'll still not know where the place begins or ends. The rapid growth has created unsightly residential areas that are out of place with the attractive natural environment that surrounds the town. This is probably the worst planned growth I've seen. Climate is slightly cooler than Las Vegas, and it holds the distinction of having the highest temperature in Utah: 118 degrees. If Las Vegas' activities are exciting to you, plan on a 1-hour plus drive through some of the most boring landscape imaginable (with the extreme exception of the gorgeous Virgin River Canyon in AZ a few miles out of town). Otherwise, plan on a lifestyle not too dissimilar from a retiree (you'll have plenty of Read More

Great climate and geography - 1/11/2006
One of the most beautiful places in the states. Red rock and desert. The weather is wrong from this site, it rarely snows or gets below freezing. It's the desert! Average high in Dec/Jan is around 60 degrees even though it might drop to 33 degrees or so at night. Summers are ok - low humidity. It will hit 110 for two weeks in July, but that's about it. Scenery is second to none. If you are into the outdoors - hiking, biking and climbing are awesome. Within an hour of high elevation playing - skiing, biking, camping, whatever. Some of the local culture is a bit quirky if not down-right odd but you learn to deal with it. This area is worth Read More
