A LOVELY MID-SIZED CITY - 1/21/2011
WE HAVE LIVED IN LYNCHBURG FOR 8 YEARS AND LOVE THE AREA. COST OF LIVING IS REASONABLE AND THE AREA IS BEAUTIFUL. LYNCHBURG IS NICKNAMED THE HILL CITY AND HAS LOVELY VIEWS. THERE ARE A NUMBER OF INDUSTRIES HERE AS WELL AS SEVERAL COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES. THE JOB MARKET AND HOUSING HAS NOT TAKEN AS GREAT A HIT AS OTHER PARTS OF THE STATE AND COUNTRY. WE ARE CONTEMPLATING MOVING TO FL BECAUSE WE WANT A WARMER CLIMATE AND WITHOUT SNOW OR ICE. MOST OF THE LAST 8 WINTERS HAVE BE MODERATE.  Read More

Progress, but not quite Progressive... - 1/3/2011
I'm pleased to report that many undesirable negatives identified in some of these posts have been resolved in Lynchburg within the past 2-3 years:
1. Nightlife. There is a beacon of it in Rivermont Pizza and City View. The former offers live music almost nightly in a relaxed, chill and young people-heavy environment. The microbrews are delicious and hipsters converse with lawyers. The latter offers a dance club scene that provides a remarkable view of downtown.
2. Dining & Coffee Shops: For the size of the city, both are abundant. Main Street Eatery, Robin Alexander, and the all-too-cool Dish are my faves. For coffee shops check out the Muse (a second location opened by Memorial Ave offering Friday music events)Drowsey Poet and the White Hart. You can knock out books in a few hours with these original anti-Starbucks. Love them.
4. Adventure: Should you be talented enough to spin a heli off a tabletop, then you can't beat the Snowflex. But if standard skiing is your Read More

Jerry Falwell's Rapture Cult - 9/24/2010
Do some investigating for yourself. Investigate the who, when, and where the so called pre-trib rapture cult came from.
Trace the money and how it built Liberty University. Tim Lahaye and his false pre-trib doctrine, what a joke!

Crime rating is very local to inner Lynchburg - 9/22/2010
Like any other older medium size city Lynchburg does indeed have some issues with crime but, from my experience, they seem to be very tied to location. Areas to the West and South of the city offer beautiful established and also new wooded neighborhoods that are as safe as any city of this size in the Read More

LYNCHBURG is for Lovers - 12/12/2009
Hate it or love it, Lynchburg, Virginia. I love the location of Lynchburg being southwest of Richmond, northwest of Roanoke(my least favorite city in Va) and south of Charlottesville.

The climate is to die for. The summers may be a bit too warm for some, however the other 3 seasons are excellent imo. You must understand that Lynchburg is a very rainy city. Most of the people are very friendly, and Lynchburg is also home to the world's largest Christian university, Liberty Read More

working in lynchburg - 4/16/2009
I am a native Virginian and after living for 35 years in the Mid-west wanted to move home. My older sister who spent 40 years in New York also wanted to come home. We came last fall and found 2 houses beside each other and bought them. Well after moving and the economic problems from last fall I find I need to go back to work. There is nothing for some one who has spent 27 years in the same job. I worked for Winnebago Ind. (yes the motor homes) and did a variety of jobs while there. But there are no jobs for me and I was assured by a few people that I would find a job easily. So what do I do now? Move back to Ia? Move some place esle in Va? I would appreciate any advise on this subject. I am so disappointed in my home state. I wish that I had stayed in the Read More

Entertainment in Lynchburg - 3/8/2008
There's a lot going on in Lynchburg if you know where to look. has several performing arts organizations downtown. The Academy of Fine Arts (www.academyfinearts.com)has both community and nationally known groups. Pianist Gustavo Romero, Harlem Gospel Choir, Peking children's Circus, Mavis Staples, Jack Klugman and more. The Renaissance Theatre always has good plays in the round. E.C. Glass Theatre regularly presents great shows. And there are great classes at the Academy, Amazement Square, and Arts and Recreation.
