Possible relocation to Albuquerque, NM. Advice?
Star Rating - 6/7/2013
Hello,
Currently my wife and I are looking to relocate out of Austin, TX. We will not move unless we have a job in the city we are going too. I am possibly getting a position in a security company in Albuquerque, NM and want to know what people think of it in 2013. I have read a lot of reviews and opinions about it and the main issue is the out dated information. My wife and I are originally from Colorado Springs, CO and have lived there for 25 years. "Ghetto" areas are no stranger to us though it is not a favorite area; a the dry and extreme climate is what we are used too. My main concern is that, is it worth the effort to live in ABQ for several years before a possible relocation else where? Also I will be traveling for my position for a week or 2 every few months and is it safe enough (Not perfect, but semi-safe at least) for my wife, a nurse, to be left on her own for that amount of time? She is not helpless, but a decently safe area matters to me.

My friend this place is the biggest Pile of bureaucratic crap you will ever see. Colorado Springs is way better and more beautiful. Denver even better, If you like being bored the majority of the time and the extreme heat in the summers without any real water parks be my guest when your only known nationally for a show about Meth (Breaking Bad) that says a lot I have being trying to move out of here for years , economy is terrible very few nice looking places, I say stay here a week and see if you can really imagine living here, I you want a quite pretty boring place to retire go for it , but look at the rankings NM ranks 49 is the nation for per capita income that alone should tell you the environment you get with that scenario. My advice STAY AWAY!!! Anywhere else is better my hope is to save people from the place because it is not worthy. Cost of living may be lower but you always get what you pay for...

Mark, the mere fact that you used Breaking Bad as a way to describe this city tells me you know little to nothing about it. You obviously just don't know where to look if you're bored here. Yeah there aren't super water parks or amusement parks, but I wouldn't gauge the quality of a city on the amount of overpriced attractions it has to satisfy you. And guess what? Colorado has been just as bad as New Mexico has for meth lab busts in the last three years. As for nice looking places, go anywhere in the NW part of town and you'll probably find a good house in a good neighborhood for a good price. We also have a lower-than-average unemployment rate than most places. And Denver NOR Colorado Springs have a low crime rate, either. Biased much?
