I disagree with Bea's comments. Maybe you have moved from a city with a larger percentage of the population being African American than there is in NM. I believe only 2 - 3% of the population is African American. Therefore, there really aren't many events held exclusively for African Americans. The rich diversity of NM lies mainly in its Hispanic and Native American roots. However, even though there isn't a large African American history here, they are very accepting of all people and races and definitely do not hold any racial biases here. You are correct that life moves slower here than back East. However, if you are a business professional that gives you somewhat of an advantage to take response times and gain business share.
