The New South

I have lived in Atlanta my entire adult life. It truly is a great city to live, work, and play. Forget all the stereotypes you've heard about the South--they typically don't apply to Atlanta. Sure, there are people here who have some strong conservative and/or religious viewpoints, but in a town this size (over 4 million metro) and this diverse (enormous African-American and gay community), Atlantans live and let live. We are called the Blue Island in the Red State.
The cost of living here is not the deal that it used to be, but it's still low compared to other major cities. Renters, expect to pay around $1k/mo for a decent one-bedroom (although you can find better deals if you know where to look). Also, it is true that traffic is a nightmare, and our subway system is limited, at best. Plan to live close to where you work.
