Should I come back home to Austin?

I read a few comments on here and a lot of them are right on the money. Now I'm trying to decide if I move back home to Austin or stay in RTP, NC? I'm in IT and from Dallas, TX originally but went to UT and worked in Austin for many years until I was laid off in the '01-'02 IT depression. Loving Austin as I do, I stay there for 1.5 years starving to death and going broke waiting for another IT job that never happened.
Now I have this great job that I love in RTP (Research Triangle Park)but I hate the NC income taxes and the cost of living here is awful. This place is NOTHING like Austin or Texas for that matter! I am not really happy here outside of work and there is lots of traffic here too!
I have an opportunity in Austin with a major company but with a pay cut. So how bad has the traffic gotten since '03? Is Austin still the same party town it used to be? Is live music still in every corner bar? What about 4-6th Street?
I'd really like some feedback as this is a MAJOR decision for me and I've already turned down this offer once this year so I doubt they will make it to me again if I turn it down this time. Thanks
