Review of Austin, Texas

Property Taxes
Star Rating - 1/9/2007
Metro Austin, as the rest of Texas, places enormous Property Taxes on its residents. There is no State Income Tax, but that is a small consolation when you consider that a newly built home in the burbs of Austin, with a purchase price of around $180,000 comes with a hefty $5,000+ a year Property Tax bill. That is about $430 per month! And when you consider that a person on a fixed income (retired) has thier pension remain the same year after year, our house values are going up simply because of "demand" which would be great to cash in but the downside is once you sell to get your money out of the house, you dont have a place to live...at least you wont be paying the property tax...
