Austin is ok. It's greener and hillier than other parts of Texas. There is no state income tax BUT the property tax is SO high. I'd rather have state income tax because if I were to lose my job, I'd have to sell my house because of the property tax. When I lived in Colorado, the property tax was low enough that if I were to lose my job, I could still survive.
There are a lot of things to do in Austin but the traffic is outrageous that you really don't want to have to drive in it. You start to learn when to get out to avoid the stop n go driving.
I moved here from an area close to Boulder, Colorado, and now wish I could go back. Although I'm from Galveston, Texas and Austin was always THE place to be, I love Colorado and feel like Boulder was more like home.
Austin is great if you love live music and bars. That's a big attraction to the young crowd but it's not much different than other big cities to those who are not into the bar scene.
