California to Austin

My husband daughter and I are considering relocating to Austin from the San Francisco Bay Area. Was considering Steiner Ranch, Round Rock and Cedar Park. We will be empty nesters soon, our little one is off to UT. Would like a neighborhood with a mixture of families and single adults. Interested in night life and recreation. Would like to know if anyone has made the move from California and what they think of Austin. We've been told it's not like any other city in Texas, much better. Ethnic diversity is extremely important to us. All information is greatly appreciated.
