Reclocating from Tucson to Austin

Lived in Tucson from late 70s to 2002. I miss it! Looking for information for my son and his wife - they are planning to move to Austin later this year when he leaves the Army. He plans to attend UT Austin and d-i-l has masters in special ed (early primary grades.) Ideal location would be "close" to both of course...they hope not to have to get a second car right away. But quality of area very important. Since I'll be visiting alot (!)...and grandbabies may be closer in the future than son's graduation...I think more of a mixed area rather than college is they way to go.

Any assistance/suggestions are greatly appreciated.
