Hot & Humid

Austin is an ok place to live. It's kind of over-hyped as being more than it is. The good: ornery Texans, racial diversity, mild winters except for the occasional ice storm, Tex-Mex and BBQ, the Longhorns, Barton Springs/Zilker, live music. The not so good: plenty of 95 degree/100 percent humidity days; horrible traffic (plus I-35 is a main NAFTA corridor so trucks rumble through non-stop), really high property taxes (mine is 4k a year for a 200k house), mosquitos/roaches/fire ants/termites/fleas/chiggers/poisonous snakes, high allergens (if ya didn't have allergies before moving here, you will!), high level of property crimes, drunk drivers, a mixed public education bag, and rising housing costs. The absolute worst thing about Austin? Just outside of it lies...TEXAS. So I don't leave town much.
All in all, I like living here. It sure beats Houston! Still, I wouldn't mind living someplace like Seattle or Portland. Maybe someday...
