My current project takes me to Hollywood every other week and I wouldn't trade the Hill Country for the Hollywood Hills. As for the culinary scene, you will not be disappointed (although I have yet to find Ethiopian as good as Merkato in Li'l Ethiopia). Finally, I read in the local paper that a developer is building "Art Lofts" (sort of a living/working studio) near the downtown area. Bottom line --- you will not regret leaving LA for Austin.
