Thinking of buying vacation home

Does Austin have "snowbirds"? My husband and I will be visiting soon to look around and check out potential winter homes. We currently have a winter home in NW Florida/Gulf of Mexico and are fed up with rising cost of insurance, hurricane fears, etc, not to mention a lack of anything interesting to do if you don't golf or want to lay by the pool all day. We visited Spring 2005 and fell in love with the lush greenery, lakes, intelligent and friendly folks. We live in Minneapolis and like a mix of urbane life and beautiful scenery, lakes, nature and think we could find that in Austin with a warmer winter climate. We want a view of water and outdoor living (we're very interesting in the Lake Travis area, The Hollows, etc) with the option to go downtown for theatre, fine dining, shopping, etc.
I'm loving this site and learning a lot.
