Review of Austin, Texas

Property Taxes
Star Rating - 5/31/2007
People here fight state income tax because they think it's better to pay high property tax. Well, I use to believe that as well until I lived in a state with state income tax. In Colorado, I paid less in state income tax and property tax than I do here in Austin for just property tax. And, my house is half the size of what I had in Colorado. I would love to stay in my house and retire here after the kids move out, BUT, I won't be able to afford the taxes. So, I know that I will have to sell and find a small place to retire to in a town where I will know no one. I've already decided to move to a state with state income tax because I won't be having to pay as much tax when I'm retired as I will in Texas with property taxes.
