I can't believe Austin gets such high reviews???

Moved to Austin 3 months ago and will be moving to another state soon.
Austin has: endless traffic (tons of tolled highways being built-ugh), lots of people looking for work, poor service )particularly food, and a real materialistic "keeping up with the Jones's" mentality. Sure there's a "keep Austin Weird" slogan, and it does have some real hippies, but I love people complementing each other on their high end cars. Also, I'm considered somewhat of a yuppie so go figure?
I've lived all throughout the country, including LA and Malibu, CA., mind you and this place is strangley focused on appearences. The University of Texas seems to be a fine school and 7th street is pretty cool but I've yet to see anyone smiling or laughing...like EVER! People will run over you in there SUV and make you get out of there way when they walk...all and all it's odd and I wish someone hade called a spade like a spade on this site! It would save many of us the trouble of having moved to this wasteland!
