great city compared to most

No city is perfect for everyone, but Austin has a lot more going for it than most. It's reasonably affordable, the local economy is strong, people are friendly, and the hill country is very scenic. There's about 2 months of really hot weather and about 2 months of colder weather, with really pleasant Spring and Fall seasons. Even Summer and Winter are quite tolerable since everyone has air conditioning, and winter has plenty of warm days. There are some excellent schools (and some bad ones too), just like in every other city in the U.S.
There are plenty of whiners posting comments on this site, but at the end of the day, it's what you make of it. Austin is an easier place than most to make a good life.
