First and foremost, its true. Austin is filled with Caliphony transplants. Its yuppyville. Everyone and there mom wants to move here, making Austin the most expensive city in Texas. I honestly think the city is a little overrated. It has the same issues as any other city in this country, you know. Crime, congestion, racism, growth, etc. As far as the job market, I'm actually shocked at the type of work thats offered. Its all menial work and service sector jobs. Otherwise you have some serious competition when applying for a real career. I do agree, the scenery is nice (on the west side of austin), but who can actually afford to live there? Downtown is going through a major boom with at least 10-20 skyscrapers being built. Its just another mid size city which will resemble Dallas in 10-20 years. As far as the singles scene, guys beware! This is a telecom town where women are outnumbered by men. (google it) If your 20 years old in college then it's a different story, otherwise most of the women are married and settled since Austin is so great for families. My biggest issue is the Caliphony attitudes of the transplants. They sell their shacks in Califas and move out here thinking, driving, and talking like the worlds revolves around them. Crime is up, so is congestion. The toll roads are getting old. Its not as cheap as they say. Yes, you can get a house for 140k, but it's in East Austin. If your from Austin, you know about East Austin. You can always live in a hick town too like Taylor or Buda. Pflugerville is the lower class up and coming suburb full off East Austinites trying to move up. If you do consider Austin, stay west of I 35, bottom line.
