Howdy y'all. I grew up in Austin and you're absolutely correct. It does suck. It was a neat "small town" city back in the 70's and early 80's but somewhere in the late 80's early 90's it was as if Austin started believing it's own press. You're correct that folks in Austin are arrogant, selfish and just down right narcissistic. Where else will you see a Ford Excretion SUV with an "Earth First" bumper sticker but having watched the change trough the decades I can tell you that a fair bit of the change stems from kids emulating the California crowd that flocked here in the 90's and 00's. They are under the misguided impression that they're much better educated than they are and have been raised the believe that they are "special", and they are. Just like everybody else. I finally had enough and left my childhood home the the new crop of Austinites. It will be sad to watch the city ultimately fail but I must admit I will find some pleasure in watching it happen. Good riddance to bad garbage as they say.
