Review of Bullhead City, Arizona

Bullhead City/ Fort Mohave area is ok, but hot
Star Rating - 7/4/2010
It's ok here, if you can take the very hot summers. Cost of living is getting high, and the downside is not much shopping or dining opportunities. When we moved here, my husband's health was starting to fade. Now he is pretty much home bound and so that means I am too. No more trips to Vegas, which is 1 1/2 hous away, and that was what I looked forward to in the beginning. He cannot even go across the river to Laughlin now, so I wish we were in a bigger city now that his health has declined.I could make quick trips to the mall and not leave him alone very long.

Important to know a little history of BHC so you can tell where it's going to. In the beginning people put brought in mobile homes as their vacation homes. Nobody meant to live here year round. Over time, the mobile homes deteriorated, so that now, years later, the city is finding any excuse to demolish them because they get to be eyesores, and produce slum landlords who do not keep them in good repair. The cheap mobiles with land attract low income people who want to be instant home owners without a mortgage the rest of their lives. so I did that, thinking I would at last retire somewhere and grow a tree, whatever, then I found out there's a lot of drugs here, a lot of low income, precisely because of the mobile homes cost so little to rent or buy. As I said, the face of BHC is looking much better these days with the really bad MH's being demolished, as well a bit of building of real housing is going on. I tried to fix up my old 64, but the faster I worked at it, the faster it was rotting away from the heat and age factors. It looked like if I was gonna die here, my trailer would die first. Not a good idea. I am in a house here now, but I can't take the heat anymore. my daughter is going to get me a home where it's not so hot, here, if you go outside you will most likely get heat stroke if you are a senior citizen. Can I recommend a good outdoor misting fan? I agree with another poster, the 2nd store is really getting greedy here. After the casinos die out, for whatever reason, so will Bullhead City that houses the workers over in Laughlin. I think it's a dying city. will take some years though. It may just become a place to go boating. It was never meant to be a home for anybody remember. It's way to hostile territory with the elements. Plus I don't think gambling should be a way of life. The lifestyle has caused many a death needlessly as well, made the foolish homeless. but if you're going to be homeless anyway, at least it won't snow on you while you're laying there in the desert.
