A Very Narrow Minded town . Nothing like a City

First, they ran the African American county Sheriff out of town. He was elected to fill an open position and the county commissions took the election to court and had it thrown out. Then an African American man was appointed to fill a vacant Democratic city commission seat. The other Republican commissioners refuse to appoint him even though the law requires it. An African American man was hired to be the city police chief. Since he has been here, they (the media) have harrassed him and his family. They have gone back into his past, trying to dig up something silly like he's Britney Spears or something. Nevermind the fact that in the short time he's been here, crime rates have dropped dramatically and he's doing an excellent job. This town needs to wake up and realize what year it is. People of all colors are equal and should be shown the respect they deserve. This is no longer the white country town of 50 years ago. Get over it!
So, if you're an African American good luck finding a job. This is still the good ole boy club town with old money where it's who you know, not what you know.
It's not a good place to raise a family either. The crime rate is as bad as NYC or Chicago and the school system is laughable. The public schools are understaffed (but on a hiring freeze due to budget cuts), unsafe (hundreds of guns are confiscated every year), and low quality (test scores are abysmal). You must be able to afford private school if you have children in Charlotte. And you must also be willing to spend $300K on a house in a decent neighborhood. Anything less and you'll have bullet holes.
