Detroit is a Great City, No Doubt About It

From architecture to sporting zeal, Detroit is a city rich in things too good to keep quiet about. If you like cars or good music, this city boasts heritage sites requiring a pilgrimage or three. The urban core of Detroit is home to the third largest collection of pre-WWII skyscrapers in the nation - and perhaps one of the most diverse architectural collections anywhere in North America. Auto plants still dot the landscape, but its the historic collections found at the Detroit Historical Museum and Henry Ford Museum that demand a visit. On your journeys about town, you'll also want to stop in at the Motown Museum, a large house where all of the great Motown songs were recorded by Detroit artists. Before cruising up to Somerset Mall in suburban Troy or Eight Mile, to drive the route Eminem was singing about on his CDs and in his movie, stop in at one of the many outstanding restaurants dotting downtown and its environs. There's Slow's, an ecelectic smokehouse west of downtown, Small Plates, a classy stop on Broadway, Coach Insignia, for those with too-big pocket books, or any of the outstanding eateries in Greektown, which runs along Monroe street downtown, between Randolph and I-375. While you're in town, be sure to pay homage to, "The Joe," "The Copa," "The Palace," and Ford Field, the homes of Detroit sports fanatics and their teams. There's literally so much to do in Detroit, you'll have to come back again and again and again. Enjoy!
