Review of Detroit, Michigan

I love Detroit
Star Rating - 3/28/2007
Okay, so I read some of the bad comments about Detroit and I must agree with the woman who wrote that she is raising her family in the city and that all black people are not poor, crackheads, uneducated...etc. I was born and raised in Detroit and have lived in several neighborhoods, some considered good, some considered bad. In all of them I can remember being able to go to my neighbors house without any hesitation for anything, because we all felt like family. Who wants to live where you never speak to your neighbors or you only see them once a year because they go in and out the house from their garages. Where's the soul and spirit of the neighborhood? Overall, Detroit has a good vibe and sense of unity. We are a soulful city that loves good music, good food, and good people. And not too mention we thrive on driving good cars, we are Motown and the Motor City. How many cities can boast that! Sure there are some bad apples, there are some terrible crimes that takes place but in most big cities, there is. Unfortunately, this country was built upon a crime, a robbery to be exact. So the seed of evil was planted a long time ago by those who stepped foot on this soil first and stole the land. So to act as if Detroit is some treacherous place to live and is all alone in the crime arena, is truly ridiculous. There are property owners who take pride in their land and keep their properties clean, we do have young boys and girls graduating, and we do have a two very well respected Universities right in the heart of the city. And not to mention the Art Museums, Theatres, Fine Restaurants, Coffee Shops, etc. The nation as a whole is suffering right now and Detroit's declining image is a result of it. We have people losing jobs everyday and families enduring hardship after hardship. Once our economy takes a turn for the good, then maybe our people will not feel the need to rob, steal, kill and destroy. And I'm talking about the thuggish people in all U.S. cities. Detroit catches a bad rap, but we are making improvements and have a thriving Downtown area that is steadily growing. My heart goes out to those that may have been victimized senselessly. I hope that you will consider giving our city another chance.
