Moving to Colorado Springs...soon
Star Rating - 9/11/2011
Hello everyone.
Here's what's going on with us:
I graduated high school in Fort Collins, CO (too many years ago to say), but only lived there for a short time.

Two months after graduating, I married my high school sweetheart and we relocated to Las Vegas and have lived here pretty much since. (and still married )

As a union Ironworker, my husband had a great job here many years. Then, as I'm sure you can feel our pain, along came the economy crash and construction here in Vegas ended.

Too young to retire, my husband has struggled along here, trying to find work. So we have finally decided to cut our losses and get out.
We decided, why not live someplace with a little more green and a lot more beauty, right? We decided on Colorado!

With family still there (Ft Collins, Loveland, Greeley, Denver and Co Springs) we're really looking forward to the move. But after giving it a lot of thought, our first choice is Co Springs.

Which brings me to this regarding Co Springs:

My husband has renewed his CDL and hopes being closer to Denver will give him more opportunity to get a local driving job. So if anyone has some information of the best places to job hunt in Colorado Springs, please share.

As for me, I do customer service work for a national company from home, so I have a job anywhere I go.

We plan to rent for a little while until we decide the best area to settle. So if you don't mind sharing, what areas of town should we avoid when looking for a place to rent?

We're getting excited about our move and looking forward to getting on the road in the next couple of months.

Any info about the area and/or suggestions would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Ugh! to Colorado Springs! It's well over an hours driver to Denver. Unless you can afford the Broadmoor area - which stays colder in winter being in the shadow of Pikes Peak et all. The rest of Co Spr. is just flat and blah with little to no culture. There's a lot of military - young families and a heavy conservative christian presence with that cult Focus on the Family group. If you want to move to CO for some more green look at the west side of Denver - Golden, Superior, Louisville, West areas Arvada along the front range and the western area of Broomfield. Housing is getting a bit silly, even in this economic decline but there is still some new construction coming along. I just have to say that once you have enjoy the Garden of the Gods a couple of times and found that quaint little tea room hidden behind downtown I just don't believe if you don't have a job or family to the Springs, there's not much there. I learned this from experience and greatfully moved to Golden and LOVED my new home! Regretfully now the job force for us and the burden of illegal immigration on our taxes and insurances labor and unemployment are pushing us out of Colorado period. (not saying it's going to be better in many other places - but that's our journey) If you have kids the school district in the west Arvada is pretty good. If you love the outdoors - hiking, biking, camping, out door music festivals, charm of ye olde downtowns and love drives in the mountains then look no further than west of Denver! Go and drive from Golden up to Boulder before you consider Co. Spr.!!! Good Luck!
