Review of Las Vegas, Nevada

Save Yourself a Move
Star Rating - 10/4/2012
If you relocate to Las Vegas, Nevada, it will only be a short time before you move on. The city is unlivable unless you are a millionaire and then I am not sure it's good even for them.

There is no culture. The city revolves around sex, drugs, and gambling. There is nothing else to do or any community spirit.

Nice place to visit, worse place to live. We moved here from Chicago 4 years ago to get away from all the cold, snow and violence to come somewhere I could not even had imagined would be this bad. You will have no friends, everyone is all about beauty and themselves. Quite frankly the people here are so dumb you probably are better off. No one cares about education or their children. Many of times kids are sleeping in parks, getting dropped off and parents never even calling to pick them up or checking on them. I am newly married with two toddlers and this is no place for kids. Anywhere you go they look at you weird when you walk in with kids. Nothing to do no beach unless you drive to Cali then you get there its too cold to swim, all pools are casino owned so you have to rent a room to swim, no water parks or amusement pks. You can go to movies but its so expensive i rather go to Redbox. Shopping is ok but I miss Chicago's fashion. Jobs are scarce unless you know someone who knows someone. I work at a major casino on the strip ( green building) yeah it's ok $ but there is no advancement they want you to stay in your dead end customer service position. You deal with spoiled, evil, jerks of customers day in and day out. The weather is nice and area is very clean that's it. Me and my husband are trying to finish school and we can't find our programs anywhere. Me sonography, him construction. People can't drive from being cut off, to drunk drivers, accidents are seen daily on side streets because they are on their cell phones ( its against the law). Registering your car is extremely expensive yearly mines is $400 and if you get a ticket be prepared to pay $150+. Ok food horrible unless you want to eat at a buffet and become overweight or just go to a fast food chain Mc D's or Jack in the Box....yuck. Quality restaurants are on the strip and you are spending $40 for just a steak no sides, no beverage!!!!!!! I despise seeing the strip, I will never ever visit this place once we move to Florida.

I love Las Vegas. I grew up in the New York tri-state area and spent a few years in Florida and a dozen years in Los Angeles before moving here 13 years ago. Yes it has it's problems. But not nearly as many as other places I've been. I can't beleive I'm reading things like "there is no beach here". Really? Have you ever seen a map?? And as far as resturants are concerned, there are fantastic and reasonably priced places to eat just about everywhere! The other thing that I take for granted is the 24 hour aspect of this place. I travel a lot. I've been to every major city in this country and will continue to sing the praises of Vegas. It's the one place i can think of, including New York, in which you can probably find whatever you want, whenever you want it. And how can anyone blame a town for not making friends? I don't get that. I will however concede that this is one of the worst places for driving! Too many tourists not paying attention while they drive past the Eiffel Tower. But the flip side is these tourists keep most of us employed and are tax rates VERY low. I also find that the pay scale here is much higher than most places. I make more here and have a much lower cost of living than LA. And the pay rate is easily twice that of Florida for the same work. Now this is really going to confuse some of the naysayers, but I traded my big house in the suburbs for a stripfront condo. Again I love Las Vegas and most of what if offers! 24/7!!!!!
