I feel your pain. I lived in SE KY for a few yrs, and while the scenery was breathtaking, the social isolation was not. See, if you're not "from here" (which there means the same county) it doesn't matter how friendly and extroverted you are (and I am both)...you are just tolerated, if that. Lexington, on the other hand, is working hard on sprucing up its image. Besides, with its universities and easy interstate access, it CANNOT remain close-minded. A few morons choose to, but those exist everywhere north or south of the Mason-Dixon.
