there are a few good things about the area, but not many. you would think that having a "major" university in the area would promote cultural awareness and diversity. this place is a joke. kansas just seems like it is 30 years behind the rest of the country. i can't understand why someone would want to live here unless they had no other choice, maybe because of their job(military), or k-state was the most cost effective school for them. i don't want to totally trash the place, there are a lot of nice people, and a lot of outdoor activities in the area.

I'm curious just what "cultural awareness and diversity" you are missing in Manhattan, Kansas. And in what way is it "30 years behind" the rest of the country? I know there are some of the public schools there that exactly match the "cultural (ethnic) diversity" of the whole state of Kansas, and that the city is part of a significant "animal health corridor" with cutting-edge research and development in the areas of veterinary medicine, animal health, and food safety as well as other very up-to-date science, engineering, etc. firms active in the city and nearby areas.
