I'm curious just what "cultural awareness and diversity" you are missing in Manhattan, Kansas. And in what way is it "30 years behind" the rest of the country? I know there are some of the public schools there that exactly match the "cultural (ethnic) diversity" of the whole state of Kansas, and that the city is part of a significant "animal health corridor" with cutting-edge research and development in the areas of veterinary medicine, animal health, and food safety as well as other very up-to-date science, engineering, etc. firms active in the city and nearby areas.
