Too Many Naysayers About Memphis

I've lived in Memphis most of my entire life (exception: Military service). I would say that one's opinion of Memphis will coincide with how you view the city in general. There are those that constantly complain/whine about the crime rate, taxes, and political/racial issues; the complainers usually don't do anything to solve/resolve the issues at hand other than run their mouths (in other words, complaining for complaining's sake). Then there are those, such as myself, who completely love this city. Yes, issues do exist; overall this is a GREAT CITY TO LIVE IN. In this day and age most of us who live in cities/urban environments will experience some of the same things to one degree or another. There are some things that happen no matter where you live (even in 'small town America').
Memphis is much better than a lot of places. There are many things to do and experience in this city and the outlining areas. We have parks, museums, festivals, concerts (some free), a multitude of community/civic/cultural events, theatres, well-known colleges, unique and eclectic community environments, sporting events, so on and so forth...You can always find something to do here. The ones who say that there is nothing to do here are hiding out in a box and need to come out of it.
If you want thrive on the negativity that you may encounter or hear no matter where you go, then that is your option. There are many Memphians who would welcome you with open arms (I being one of them); some may complain, but they would still welcome you nontheless.
Feel free to visit the Great City of Memphis, TN. Feel free to look for perfection if you wish - you might not find it, but go ahead and look for it anyway (we won't discourage you). The best thing to do is to look for the positive; after all none of us are perfect, are we?
