Miami: The myths and realities

OK so to anyone who has never been to Miami, here is one thing you must know: Miami FL and Miami Beach FL are TWO SEPARATE AND DIFFERENT PLACES. Miami Beach lies across Biscayne Bay. As for Miami, It is a big, ugly and I do mean ugly, boring ,and overcrowded place. The traffic is the worst you will ever see, Miami has been rated as the worst in the US for road rage. Also, from Thursday to Sunday, the number of drunk drivers on the roads are ridiculous, due to the back and forth from the clubs on the beach and the new club scene downtown, so beware. I grew up in Miami and moved away 12 years ago and can't tell you how glad I am that I did. I still visit my family at least 3 times a year, but the unemployment, dead real estate market and hum drum lifestyle of the city keep me from ever returning. The weather is hot, humid, and it rains for 6 months out of the year. People here are generally very rude no matter where you go or who you are. As for the housing and real estate, it was once horribly overpriced, now you can't give your house away here. All those big ugly condo high rises downtown are pretty much half empty since the market bottomed out here, and it will take at least 4 or 5 years to really bounce back. Public schools are HORRIBLE!!!! Elementary schools are still OK, but once your children reach middle school, you are facing gang activity, poor teachers, overcrowded classrooms and uncaring staff who will only blame you for being a bad parent. Miami BEACH may be a great place to visit, but Miami is just another hum drum example of suburban sprawl run amok. The art scenes here are really nothing special, and outdoor activities are focused only on the beach and boating. The club scene here does not begin to compare to LA, New York or Las Vegas, clubs here are pretty tacky and at least 10 years behind everywhere else, pretty overrated. The clubs are crammed with locals and the only beautiful people you see are out of towners. If you want to raise a family, enjoy talking to your neighbors, want good schools, job stability and a laid back way of life, DON'T MOVE TO MIAMI, you won't find any of those things here. I promise.
