Review of Miami, Florida

Not For Me
Star Rating - 7/13/2020
For the sake of this review, I'm referring to Miami, not Miami Beach (they are two completely different worlds).

The good:

- The weather is always warm, it doesn't snow and very rarely gets below 60 degrees.
- The beaches are pretty good. Not the best Florida has to offer, but it's up there.
- The nightlife is one of the best in the country (if you're into that).
- If you like Latin food, you will have a good variety and selection of places to eat.

The bad:

- It's not diverse. It's majority Hispanic (almost 80% of the population, 20% everybody else).
- It's very segregated. Whites live with and marry Whites, Blacks live with and marry Blacks, Hispanics live with and marry Hispanics. The tiny minority of people that are in interracial relationships face frequent stares from the public and pressure from their own community to 'date one of their people'.
- The people are rude, hostile and lack customer service. If you're expecting any level of southern hospitality, you won't find it here.
- Stress is an everyday way of life here. Everything is always GO GO GO, I need it NOW NOW NOW. You will see it at your job, on the road, at stores, etc.
- There is a notable income disparity in this city. People are either really rich, or extremely poor (most fall into the latter). There is very little middle room. The people driving all the expensive cars on the highway are borrowing the car from their abeulo's friend's cousin's rich investor husband, or taking out a second mortgage on their house to afford it. Keeping up with the Joneses is the norm in this city.
- The corruption is very bad. And by corruption, I don't just mean politics. The corruption extends to hiring, housing, HOA's, anything that requires voting or a subjective community-based effort.
- People are surprisingly very racist against Blacks. You would think a city with such a high population of Hispanics would have a low level of anti-Black racism, but the opposite is true. It's not covert "smile in your face then talk about you behind closed doors" either - it's blatant, unnecessarily hostile, prejudiced, in your face "that's just the way it is" racism.
- There is a strong culture of blue-collar, narrow-minded conservatism, unlike any of the major cities Miami is commonly compared to. It's not uncommon to walk into an upscale establishment where very little people speak English, yet country music is blasting on the speakers. A large percentage of the population work in trades, voted for Trump and have a hard-on for law enforcement.
- The people are largely unattractive (men and women). The hot and attractive people you see on movies and TV are from South Beach and do not represent the people in Miami proper. They are mostly overweight with beer bellies and muffin tops, and they look older than they actually are due to stress.
- I'm pretty sure most people know how bad the drivers are down here, so I won't even get into it. If you have any doubts about it, please take a trip down here and see it for yourself. It's very self-evident.
