Review of Minneapolis, Minnesota

Not liking it...
Star Rating - 7/24/2007
I have been in Minneapolis for well over a year. Don't like it.

People here are very surface. If you didn't grow up here, than locals treat you like an outsider. I can always tell if someone is from MN - typically will be nice but won't let you completely in, are sheltered (typically don't travel outside of MN too often b/c don't ya know MN is the center of the universe). If I hear 1 more time how superior the state is I will scream.

Time to get out......

This isn't the first time I've heard this so I can't write it off, but it still surprises me. I love MN (born and raised so no surprise to you there) and can't wait to get back. I've been living in various parts of the country for 4 years now, so I've had a chance to meet Minnesotans I didn't know while I was there. Everyone I've met loves to travel, but always loves going back. I can't really talk about our personalities and how personable we are since that's obviously a biased subject. I wouldn't be too surprised I guess. I just don't understand the sheltered argument. I've been to 44 states, spent multiple days at a time in 25, and seen some great European cities. I've actually liked everywhere I've been too. Can't think of a place I would never go back to. Minneapolis is definitely the top of my list though.

I have lived in the Twin Cities my whole life and I have never been hunting or fishing. Ever. I never even went camping until I was in college. If you think Minneapolis is not diverse than you have not been here in a while. I live in Minneapolis and I adore it. I adore Chicago too, also Denver, Boston, Paris, and London, but I will always be happy to return home to Minneapolis.

And sandy, I understand the superiority complex you speak of...but I do not understand why you would want to live somewhere without pride and drive to have the best. "Look at us, we're just average!"

I'm orginally from the twin cities but I have lived in Europe for most of a decade with work and have just moved to Chicago. I don't think I will ever move back to Minnesota. I think there is some truth that minnesotans don't like outsiders. People here generally love their state, love to fish and hunt and are a little ignorant to the wider world and how they fit into it but this is true of many places around the world. The best cities in the world, in my opinion are those who have a diverse population from tourist, students and the arts. Without outside influences it's not their fault they are ignorant. I say stick it out and teach them a thing or two about diversity!
