it is a bit overboard, but generally NM is a crappy place and don't shoot the messenger. the stats speak for themselves, despite your perceptions of your world there.
overall, there is limited to zero job opportunity if you don't sell out & work for a nuke weapons lab or the air force. people are generally lower class, uneducated, and many will rob you, jack you, or shoot at you. again, don't shoot the messenger - stats of crime don't lie. there is no "good" area in albuquerque. it's all relatively crappy, run-down, poor and crime-ridden. if you live in a "nice" area, crime will come to you. bet on it. albuquerque is the rectum of the southwest, with stats to reinforce - an indefensible city. if you still want to try to defend the state... it's ranked 48th in the country. one of the poorest states in the nation with the 50th best education system. some of the highest violent and property crime rates - around double the national averages. tackle lack of opportunity, high crime, and green chile being the only notable economic benefit that comes from the state....manana bro!
