NYC property taxes

The recent 7.5% property tax hike for NYC residents is appalling and Mayor Bloomberg should be ashamed to implement such a hike in the worst economic crisis since the Great Depression. As if it weren't enough for middle income residents to be outpriced from living in Manhattan, now he is outpricing the upper middle class as well.
When so many tri-state area residents are dependent on NYC for their jobs and incomes, why put the burden strictly on the few homeowners who live in the city and not tariff the millions and millions of people who commute into the city every day?
