New York City

New York is my favorite city in the country and I consider myself lucky to live here. It is, however, most definitely not for everybody. You must consider your likes and dislikes carefully. The cultural offerings, extraordinary variety in restaurants and shopping, architecture, ethnic enclaves, parks and being within striking distance of some beautiful beaches are the high points for me. For many people these will not be sufficient to outweigh crowds, noise, smaller living spaces and higher cost of living. Obviously if you are not a city person to begin with you will not even consider living here but even if you do live in a big city elsewhere in the US the lifestyle in New York is still going to be different from what you are used to. If you like to explore, enjoy making new discoveries and don't dwell too much on the negatives then take the plunge. You can always move out if you hate it.
