The housing prices are not expensive --- SARCASTIC is a better term. You have to LOOK for people who pay rent on their own.
A visitor might be impressed with the city's huge transportation system, but if you have to commute everyday, you'll eventually learn how dirty and inefficient it can be.
If you're getting mugged, groped, or worse, don't expect help from anyone -- even if it's happening in a crowded subway car!!! Those "tough" New Yorkers either act like nothing is happening or stare at the incident with wide-eyed fear
Working here can be hectic and competitive.
Driving is also a challenge -- motorists are aggressive and/or frequently uninsured (because of those affordable insurance rates), and the pedestrians have a habit of defiantly waltzing in front of cars, even when the driver has the green light.
If you plan to become a New Yorker, don't believe what you see in Friends or the Spiderman movies; it's not that fun living here.
