New York is a wealth centric metropolis. New Yorkers elected a billionaire as their mayor, and they seem to love him if you believe published polls on the matter. However, NYC police staring salary is 25K per year, rising to 60K after five years. Firefighters have a similar salary. Housing is incredibley expensive, as time moves forward, working class people will not be able to afford to live near they city they work in. I love the town, but I may just love the memory of the town I grew up in. Yet, more young people are moving in (sharing living spaces, it seems and sharing the rent) , the population of the city increases each year. Jobs are here, just not affordable housing. Raising a family here is a daunting challenge.
