Upper East Side

I like the proximity to Central Park, the Museums (Museum mile), and the East River Walk-way. Asphalt Green is an excellent gym. The local restaurants are ok. Crime in NYC is an endemic problem, but its my impression the people committing the crimes are for the most part, not from the neighborhood, which is irrelevant if you are a crime victim.
The people in the neighborhood are typically single, self-absorbed with a scattering of familys around somewhat akin to a sunny day with blue skys and scatterings of cumulous clouds here and there. Private schools are a viable option to avoid the limitations of the PS. Housing is affordable but prohibitive for most. Transportation around about is excellent. Overall, I feel pretty safe despite the occassional east side rapist and bar room brawl. Speaking of which, the bars on 2nd Ave are pretty much a singles scene and impart a loud and sometimes drunkenly raucous quality on Thus, Fri and especially Sat evenings.
