not for everyone

I've been living in NYC (Brooklyn) for over three years now, and I find it funny how non-representative this city is to the rest of the country. You will read in these reviews that "everyone should live here" as if there is no place worth living between here and San Fran or LA. Not true, of course, but it's that New York ego and pride. New Yorker's believe you need to be tough to live here, which is also not true. Remember, most the people you meet in NYC were not born here. They are either from small town America or another country.
Basically, NYC is a crowded, crude, fast-paced, expensive city that has all the trimmings. You can do ANYTHING here. The possiblities for entertainment, careers and relationships are endless. However, my friend summed up NYC quite nicely by saying this city is like a buffet. There are a thousand things to eat, but you can only eat so much. I learned this to be true once I settled into my rutine of the same bars, eateries and friendships. If you have no need to explore a thousand options (like most people), than the expense and quality of life may not be for you. Besides, who can afford to do what they really want to do in NYC anyway? But, if you want a place to party, a place to open your mind and a place to move up quickly in your career..... NYC is your place.
