Sun Lovers Really Enjoy Phoenix

We lived in North Phoenix (on the border of Scottsdale) from 1997 to 2005 and we think it's a wonderful place to live. The city is clean with upscale architecture - very beautiful. The summer weather is CONSISTENTLY sunny and very hot and dry, perfect for swimming on a daily basis. We considered air-conditioning and a pool necessities. We have lived in Michigan, S. California, Texas and New Mexico. We read the posts for cities here and it seems like the people who complain are the folks who are low income and young, requiring a bar scene. They won't be satisfied anywhere b/c it's expensive to live everywhere these days, short of the economically depressed Midwest. In the winter, the weather is very similar to Southern California, perfect for hiking or just hanging outdoors. We are middle-aged and very active and we love the sunshine, so Phoenix was a great place to be. The climate became a backdrop for our lives, rather than our always needing to plan activities around something like rain or snow or cold. Most neighborhoods are safe, clean and friendly. Although the cost of homes has sky-rocketed, there are pockets of affordable places still. Employment is a problem because wages are stagnant and low, compared to housing costs. That's why we moved (to Indiana) for work in my husband's field after he was down-sized. We can't wait to return in a few more years to retire!
