Considering moving from Florida

We could really use your help and insight. Considering moving to San Diego County as semi-retirees from Palm Beach County, Florida. We've visited a couple of times and are most excited about the weather however; most of the reviews on this site are quite negative and disturbing so we are asking for some information on things like the actual cost of utilities (perhaps you can state your monthly costs and size of living quarters), your take on crime, traffic and of course your general place of residence such as 'Chula Vista', 'Poway', etc. Concise, but descriptive facts will truly help - thank you in advance for your comments!
