Opportunity

I'm a Kansas City person, born and raised. Moved to San Francisco in 1976, then to San Diego in 1978. Nearly everyone I know here is from someplace in the midwest. The real estate prices were high in 1979 - $135,000 for a new home. Compared to anywhere else, it seemed prohibitive. But I decided to pull up stakes after a promotion to Pittsburgh and bring what possessions I could fit in a trailer the 3,000 miles west, or so. Worked in San Francisco for 2 years before wanting to go where the beaches were white and the sun was warm, so moved to San Diego. Started out in a tiny apartment that was wonderful. Just to be near the beach was fantastic. Worked hard, moved up, and made my million - which surprisingly, isn't as big a deal as it used to be. But dealing everyday with the people that comprise California, still the pioneers that have taken the leap to live where they want, can't be beat. California continues to have a gold rush. Because it continues to attract those willing to forsake the safe haven for the new frontier. California real estate prices may be dipping, but don't kid yourself, this is simply as good as it gets. At least for me nearing 60. For those adventureous enough to make the break, California has generations of gold still to be tapped.
