Review of San Diego, California

a very conservative place
Star Rating - 9/15/2007
While there are many people here that have a Southern Californian indifference to politics (the weather, happy hour and the beach are paramount to these folks), be aware that the area in general is extremely conservative. Some downtown neighborhoods and beach areas, such as Hillcrest and Pacific Beach, are not, but the Golden Triangle, North County, and East County are very much so. East County bears a resemblence to the deep South in terms of religious, political, and sometimes racial views.

It isn't THAT bad. Every city has racial segregation based on economic disparities. That's just how it is in America. Well-educated ethnic groups tend to dominate the nice parts of town while lower class people live in lower class neighborhoods. The city politics does tend to be more conservative, but nearly all of Southern California is conservative. We still have diversity, gay friendly parts of town, fine dining, dance clubs, urban nightlife, rural adventures and hiking, scuba, boating, etc. San Diego ranked #5 on the best places in the United States for a father to raise his family.
