The Long, Great Run is Slowing Down

I grew up in San Diego, and have always loved many aspects of living here, not least the weather, the diversity of people, and the friendly nature. Over the past few years, there seem to be many issues, small to large, that make me consider leaving. Briefly: infrastructure is falling apart; city and county government at the least ineffective, if not tending towards the corrupt; residents who see San Diego as a "vacation" not a place to live, thus are not involved; water shortages; cost of living so high that even 6 figure incomes can't cut it; a once amazingly low crime rate that seems to be creeping upwards. Also, we seem to be unable to keep our beaches clean -- closings are frequent and serious. I hope that all of these issues will be dealt with, but with young children, and a relative lack of income, I may have to leave.
