Review of San Diego, California

San Diego in general...
Star Rating - 4/14/2008
I came here with my wife a few years ago from Florida- Northwest Florida.

Having grown up surrounded by Southern hospitality, I am ever amazed at the indifferent and rude behavior of San Diegans, they just don't seem to care about anyone but themselves. The schools lack discipline entirely, due to a bunch of crybaby liberal parents who've taken away the ability of the school staff to enforce any rule. The general consensus is that all children are so precious in California that they could do no wrong- discipline is deemed unneccesary. Please give me a break.

To buy a home, you will spend $450,000.00 on a crummy old house built in the 1950's which needs a remodel to make it anything you'd want to live in. The yards are small, and the neighbors act like they don't want to know you.

Oh yes, you really need to speak Spanish here.

Having said all that, you can make a LOT of money here if you have any brains. I never made more than $45,000.00 in Florida, and my wife never made more than $37,000.00. We are both well educated Engineers and do our jobs well. We make >$150,000.00 in CA and that is really the only reason we stay here. But not for much longer.

The other great thing about San Diego is the weather. You simply can't beat it. If you live within 3 miles of the Pacific, you dont even need air conditioning (we don't have it and don't miss it). Lucky thing, since power here is really expensive.

Finally, like any large city, the availability of anything you could ever want is high. There is a store for everything, lots of great places to eat, and, for those who smoke marijuana (I don't) you can go to a doctor and get a prescription to reefer and the cops will leave you alone. Unfortunately, this also means they do little to keep high school kids from smoking too.

If your thinking about moving to SD, think hard. If you have school age children, think even harder, because the education system is really dumbed down to accomodate all the non-English speaking kids. I'm not being racist, as my wife is Filipino, I'm just telling the truth.

Thanks for reading my opinion.
