Great Climate, But No Jobs

My husband and I moved to San Diego from Phoenix in June 2007. We moved for the climate and the proximity to the beach (Ocean Beach). We love walking on the beach every day and bike riding. However, I have been trying since May to get signed up as a substitute school teacher (I have a CA certificate)and finally succeeded, but there are no jobs!I haven't seen other jobs in logistics, my previous career, either.
It was disturbing to watch the recent terrible fires. Everyone helped each other, and the boys I met were excited to be "evacuated."
