Lived in San Jose in the 90's thru to 2006. No jobs for High tech. Corporate America sold out its people. High cost of real estate. Gas prices (CA is being punished). Organized government corruption to the max. You have to be a foreigner to want to buy a shack for $800K. Your basically working/slaving for your home. Commodity prices are adjusted as though everyones a millionaire. The ones that are suffering are the people who aqcuired their homes through inheiritance, taking advantage of Prop 13. Prop 13 will eventually be lost due to deminishing support and California's outragious budget problems. You still can't skirt around the fact that prices are set as though everyones a millionaire. I moved out of San Jose with a mindset of "why stay". California is a beautiful state and will always be its just the people screwed it up. If you don't mind smaller government, cheaper housing, and can comunicate in English, areas outside Calif. can make a big difference in the quality of life.
