Great City

I love San Jose. The downtown area's not as big as I would like, but the culture is vivid -- lots of great food and arts and festivals. The city government is great, with excellent police force, utilities, waste management. The downtown area is exceptionally clean for such a large city. It's not hard to find work. Nightlife is exciting and fun (though there needs to be a little more variety -- I hope you luke pubs or clubs, because that's about all that's here: only one sports bar and two pool halls in the downtown area).
The one big problem with San Jose: Cost. Living downtown is expensive. Most of the dot-com survivors and moneymakers live in the blossom valley area where housing's a little more affordable, but since they don't usually come downtown for their partying and fun, the "walkability" of downtown is pretty low (there's not a lot to do if you park your car and just walk around).
That said, I love it here. Moving away (for a new position) is going to be a tough thing to do.
